What are the reasons for the failure of the oil cooler

Feb 28, 2025

Repair of damaged cooler core During the operation of the diesel engine, if it is found that the coolant enters the inside of the oil pan, and there is oil inside the radiator. Troubleshooting methods are as follows:
① After discharging the waste oil inside the cooler, remove the oil cooler. Lay the removed cooler flat and fill the inside of the cooler with water through the oil outlet of the oil cooler.
d take out the cores. If the outer layer of the core is found damaged, it can be repaired by brazing. If the inner layer of the core is found to be damaged, a new core should generally be replaced or the two ends of the same core should be blocked.
When the end cap is cracked or broken, it can be welded with cast iron welding rod and then used. Replace the gasket if it is damaged or aged.
Oil cooler pressure drop check oil cooler partial blockage will cause oil pressure drop, this is because the amount of oil in the cooler is reduced, so that the cooling capacity of the oil in the diesel engine at high temperature is reduced, resulting in the viscosity of the oil is reduced, the oil pressure is reduced.
When checking, remove the oil cooler, add kerosene at the oil inlet, and then stand up the cooler, if the outlet does not continuously flow out of the added fuel, it means that the cooler has been partially blocked. You can also use another method: input a certain pressure of oil into the oil inlet of the oil cooler and measure the pressure at the oil outlet. If the measured force difference between the inlet and outlet is obviously too large, the oil cooler is blocked.
Cleaning of the oil cooler to the following diesel engine in the maintenance, the oil cooler core must be forcibly cleaned:
① diesel engine burning tile or holding shaft failure;
② Diesel engine cylinder or piston top ablation failure;
③ Oil cooler resistance is too large (more than 0. 08MPa).
To clean the oil cooler, you can use gasoline, kerosene or other special cleaning agent (such as carbon tetrachloride solution).
When cleaning, direct the cleaning agent into the oil cooler channel, block both ends, and then shake the oil cooler core up and down (or left and right). Observe the effect after releasing the cleaning agent. If the cleaning agent released is very dirty, you can wash it several times until you are satisfied
